Proteins are the building blocks of body tissue, and even give the body the energy it needs to grow and develop properly. When protein is digested, it breaks down into amino acids. The Institute of Medicine says that women need at least 46 grams of protein a day, and men need at least 56 grams a day. Here are the top 10 sources of protein for vegetarians 1. Greek Yogurt Greek yogurt, which has the whey strained out of it, is a great source of protein. A 6-ounce cup of Greek yogurt has 15- 20 grams of protein. That’s much more than regular yogurt, which has about 9 grams of protein. This probiotic food also has a lot of vitamins and minerals. Eating Greek yogurt all the time will help your digestive system stay healthy, boost your immune system, help with weight loss, stop high blood pressure, lower bad cholesterol, and fight yeast infections. 2. Lentils Lentils is another good choice for protein. But they are not a full protein food because they don’t have all nine important amino acids. One cup of boiled lentils has 18 grams of protein. There are many good health reasons to eat lentils. They give energy, lower the risk of heart disease, help keep a normal body weight, and keep the digestive system healthy. 3. Edamame Edamame is a full protein food, important amino acids you need in your diet. One cup of cooked edamame has 17 grams of protein. Edamame beans have fiber, vitamins, minerals, and healthy polyunsaturated fats, especially omega-3 alpha- linolenic acid. They are also naturally gluten- free and don’t have a lot of calories. 4. Kidney Beans Kidney beans are another great source of protein. One cup of boiled kidney beans has 15 grams of protein. They have all nine amino acids, but they are not a full protein because they don’t have a lot of methionine, a proteinogenic amino acid. Kidney beans have a lot of fiber, folate, magnesium, potassium, zinc, and vitamins K and B6. They are also low in fat and cholesterol. 5. Tofu Tofu is a soy milk product, and is also a good source of protein. ½ a cup of tofu has 10 grams of protein. It has eight important amino acids and a lot of iron and calcium. It also has manganese, selenium, phosphorus, magnesium, copper, zinc and vitamin B1. 6. Chia Seeds Another good source of protein for vegetarians is chia seeds. Two tablespoons of chia seeds will give you 9.4 grams of protein. They are also one of the best plant sources of omega-3 fatty acids. Chia seeds can help with digestion, treat anemia, give you energy, control blood sugar, stop aging signs, and boost brainpower. 7. Quinoa Quinoa has all nine important amino acids, and is a full protein source. One cup of cooked quinoa has 8.14 grams of protein. Quinoa also has fiber, iron, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus and folate. Eating quinoa every day can lessen swelling and lower your risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and colon cancer. It can also help your digestion and help you keep a healthy body weight. 8. Soy Milk Soy milk is used instead of milk by a lot of vegans and people who are lactose intolerant and cannot drink milk. It is full of protein and has vitamins A, B12, and D. One cup of soy milk has 8 grams of protein. 9. Green Peas One of the best sources of vegetable protein is green peas, or any peas for that matter. Green peas also have fiber, potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc, folate, and vitamins B, C, A, and K. They are also low in calories. One cup of cooked green peas gives you about 8 to 10 grams of protein. Green peas can help lower the risk of heart disease, arthritis, and type 2 diabetes. 10. Peanut Butter Peanut butter is another great way to get protein. This nut butter is a good source of monounsaturated fat and fiber. It is also full of vitamins. Just 2 tablespoons of peanut butter has 8 grams of protein. If you’re careful not to eat too much of it at once, this butter can help lower bad cholesterol and help you keep a normal weight. Bacon is one of the most sought after foods in the entire world. Although not the healthiest food you could be eating it certainly is one of the most delicious. Unfortunately it's off the menu for Vegans and the limited bacon alternatives they have at most health food stores fail to live up to the standards bacon lovers have come to expect. FULL RECIPE: http://wp.me/p2x3lA-2RS BUY INGREDIENTS TO MAKE THIS: http://bit.ly/25wY8my As a bacon fan herself Candice set out to solve this problem and create a proper bacon alternative using rice paper and a bacon marinade. You start by getting out a bowl and whisk. In your bowl add Tamari, olive oil, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, a small amount of liquid smoke, some maple syrup, a bit of paprika and finally some pepper. You will then whisk this all together until you reach a smooth consistency. Next you will take two sheets of rice paper and lay them on top of each other. Then get your sharpest knife and cut them into strips, much like an actual strip of bacon. Now take a basting brush and dip it into water then brush the strips with a generous amount of water. Be sure not to over water the strips, just get them good and moist. Once you have them moistened put them together. The water is key to this process as it helps bond the two strips of rice paper together giving you a more authentic bacon experience when cooked. Repeat this process with a few strips. Once those are laid out grab your brush again and paint the strips with your marinade. After that's complete and you feel you've got a fair amount of marinade on your rice paper lay your strips out flat on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. This keeps your vegan bacon from sticking your baking pan and also makes clean up a snap. At this point you are going to see your rice paper strips beginning to look like bacon. Preheat your oven to 400' and bake your strips for seven to nine minutes. If you leave your vegan bacon strips in for too long they will definitely burn and you will want to avoid that. After all who really wants to eat any kind of burned bacon? Keep a close eye on them as cooking times will vary from oven to oven. After they are looking nice and crispy pull them out and prepare to be amazed by how much they look like real slices of actual cooked bacon. You can, if you so choose, devour this bacon immediately. If you make a bigger batch and put it in the fridge it will get soft again giving you some interesting options. Candice likes to wrap the softer vegan bacon around King Oyster Mushrooms but the bottom line is that the sky is the limit. Anything you could wrap bacon around you can definitely wrap this vegan bacon around, you could even have bacon on your veggie burgers. Don't be afraid to get creative. While it is impossible to truly duplicate the flavor of actual bacon Candice claims this recipe is the closest your going to get as a vegan. What are you waiting for? I recently came up with this Vegan Ground beef, and I'm stoked on it! This is a really easy plant-based meat substitute, that works so well with fajitas, quesadillas, or tacos. It's quite high in protein, and a complete one at that! Subscribe for healthy recipes, tips and more: https://youtube.com/marlondoll?sub_confirmation=1 Recipe - 1 Cup of Black Rice (Or brown) - 1 Cup of Quinoa - 4 Cups of Water - 1 Tbsp of Salt - 1 Tbsp of MSG or Mushroom Seasoning (Optional) - 1 Tbsp of Salt - 1 Tbsp of Chili Powder - 1 Tbsp of Cumin - 1 Tbsp of Garlic Powder - 1 12 oz Can of Black or Kidney Beans Instructions 1. Rinse your black rice, if not already pre-rinsed. Add rice to a pot with 4 Cups of water, salt, and optional mushroom seasoning. Bring to a boil. 2. Once it reaches a boil, add Quinoa, and reduce heat to a simmer on low. As it evaporates give it a stir every few minutes. When water is nearly evaporated, add beans, and spices and mix. When water is fully evaporated it's done. This will make at least 6 servings of ground beef. Vegan Fried Chicken is a fantastic alternative for transitioning vegans/vegetarians using seitan and seasonings. This recipe is quick and easy to make. Join the Video Marketing for Beginners class and I will teach you how. https://www.udemy.com/video-marketing-for-beginners/ Recipe: 1 cup vital wheat gluten flour 1 package active rapid rise yeast 1 tsp tumeric (adds to the color) 3/4-1 cup water (add water slowly) Seasoned flour to dip the mixture in Salt & pepper to taste Step 1: Mix all dry ingredients together and then slowly add 3/4-1 cup water. The gluten flour will quickly absorb the water. Mix thoroughly and knead for 1-2 minutes to work in the seasonings. Cover the bowl with a damp warm towel for 30 minutes. Step 2: Boil water using vegetable stock order seasonings. Heat up a pan of oil to around 350°. Step: 3: Uncover and punch down the dough. Pull off a fist sized portion, stretch it out. Place it in the boiling water for 1-2 minutes. Step 4: Using tongs remove the mixture from the boiling water and dip it in the seasoned flour and add immediately to the oil. Step 5: Cook the vegan fried chicken until golden brown and then remove from the oil. Step 6: Drain using a paper towel for strainer. That's it! You can now enjoy vegan fried chicken.
